Erkki Juhani Laine (born September 13, 1957 in Lahti , † August 22, 2009 in Asikkala ) was a Finnish ice hockey player . His daughter Emma Laine is one of the best tennis players in Finland.

Career

Erkki Laine began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Kiekko-Reipas Lahti , with whose professional team he rose in the 1975/76 season as a master of the second-rate I-divisioona in the SM-liiga . With 40 goals he was the top scorer of the I-divisioona. The winger spent two years in the SM-liiga before playing for Leksands IF in the Swedish Elitserien from 1978 to 1982 . In the 1980/81 season he was the first time top scorer in the Elitserien . After a two-year return to his hometown club Kiekko-Reipas from the SM-liiga, the Finn played for Färjestad BK from the Elitserien from 1984 to 1988 . There he was also the top scorer in the top Swedish league straight away in the 1984/85 season . In the 1985/86 and 1987/88 seasons he won the Swedish championship title with the FBK and was the top scorer of the playoffs in both years. In between he was runner-up with Färjestad in the 1986/87 season .

For the 1988/89 season Laine joined the BSC Prussia from the ice hockey Bundesliga . For the team he scored 14 goals and 25 assists in 36 games. The 1989/90 season started the two-time Olympic participant at HC Davos in the Swiss National League B , but ended it at his home club Kiekko-Reipas in the I-divisioona. With the team he succeeded at the end of the season of promotion to the SM-liiga, in which he played another four years, before he played again in the second Finnish division after the team's relegation in the 1994/95 season. He then ended his career at the age of 37.

Laine died in a boating accident in August 2009 at the age of 51. In his honor, the Pelicans Lahti no longer award jersey number 13.

International

For Finland , Laine took part in the junior division at the U19 European Junior Championship in 1976 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 1977 . At the U19 European Championships, he won the bronze medal with his team in 1976. At senior level, he stood his country in the squad 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and in 1988 in Calgary and won in 1988 with Finland the silver medal.
