Marjorie Rhodes

Marjorie Rhodes (born April 9, 1897 in Hull , Yorkshire , † July 4, 1979 in Hove , East Sussex ) was a British actress with character roles in theater, film and television. Her acting career spanned around 50 years. She starred in over 100 roles in British cinema and television productions from the 1930s to the 1970s. Including in films like Duel at the wheel , Lively and lively The daredevil men in their flying boxes , Honey moon 67 or hands full of blood .

life and career

Marjorie Rhodes, born in Hull, Yorkshire in 1897 , established herself as a character actress in film, television and theater in the early 1940s.

She made her screen debut in 1939 in Paul L. Stein's film Poison Pen . In the 1940s Marjorie Rhodes was seen on the screen in character roles, including in films such as the war film Squadron Leader X by Lance Comfort , in Peter Ustinov's war drama Secret Flight in Robert Donat's comedy The Cure for Love . In the mid-1950s she starred in Arthur Lubin's thriller Between Hate and Love , in the adventure film Duel at the wheel of Cy Endfield , in Ken Annakin's epic comedy The Daredevil Men in Their Flying Chests, and in John and Roy Boulting's award-winning film Honey Moon 67 for them has received various awards for Best Supporting Actress, including prestigious awards such as the National Board of Review Award and the National Society of Film Critics Award . Her last role in the cinema was in 1971 in the crime drama Hands Full of Blood, directed by Peter Sasdy .

At the end of the 1930s, Marjorie Rhodes turned to television at an early age and played there in numerous television films and episodes of series. Her appearances in the new medium included roles in Patrol Car (1955), Steptoe and Son (1965), Slim John (1969) and Z Cars (1974).

In the theater she played in the musical Summer Song at the Princes Theater in London together with David Hughes, Sally Ann Howes and Laurence Naismith . On Broadway she was nominated for the Tony Award for All in Good Time for Best Actress in the category (Drama) in 1965.

Marjorie Rhodes died on July 4, 1979 at the age of 82 in Hove , East Sussex .
