Markus Burger (* 22. June 1964 in Bregenz ) is from Austria originating Handball coach .
His son Sebastian Burger is active as a handball player at UHC Hollabrunn.
Career
Burger started at Bregenz Handball as a youth coach. During his time as an assistant trainer at Bregenz , he acquired an A- trainer license . In 2008 he took his first job as head coach at TSV St. Otmar St. Gallen . In his first season with the Swiss , he reached the semi-finals of the EHF Cup with the team . During his work with the Gallus team, he was employed by the Austrian men's national handball team for the 2010 European handball championship as an assistant coach. After the 2009/10 season, Burger signed a contract with Alpla HC Hard and was again active in the Handball League Austria . With the Vorarlbergers he was Austrian national champion in 2011/12 , 2012/13 , 2013/14 and 2014/15 as well as the winner of the ÖHB Cup in 2013/14 . He is the second coach after Frank Bergemann who led the Harder to a championship title in the HLA, and the first to win the double with them. Furthermore, after the 2012/13 season, the Bregenz native was named “Trainer of the Year” by the HLA. After the 2015/16 season , Burger left his job in Hard.
In 2017, the Bregenz company was signed by HB Esch. In February 2018, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement. In March 2019, Burger took over the position of head coach at Bregenz Handball from Jörg Lützelberger after Jörg Lützelberger won only one of five games with the team in the bonus round of the Spusu League .
