Markus Dreßen

Markus Dreßen (* 1971 in Münster ) is a German graphic designer , book designer and university professor. He lives in Leipzig.

Life and works

Markus Dreßen studied from 1993 to 1999 at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig in the book art / graphic design course with Hildegard Korger , Günter Karl Bose (project group work ahead), Ruedi Baur (class system design) and Volker Pfüller (class illustration). He then worked as an artistic assistant for typography at the HGB Leipzig. In 2000 Markus Dreßen founded the Spector working group with Anne König and Jan Wenzel . In the 2006/2007 winter semester, Markus Dreßen was appointed professor for graphic design at the HGB Leipzig. He designed books for artists such as Olaf Nicolai , Neo Rauch , Ilya Kabakov , Ramon Haze , designed visuals for the gallery for contemporary art (director Klaus Werner 1996-2001, Barbara Steiner 2001-2011), Leipzig Opera (director Udo Zimmermann) and that Schauspiel Stuttgart (artistic director Armin Petras). In 2004 Markus Dreßen was awarded the “Golden Letter”, the highest award in the book art competition “ Most Beautiful Books from All Over the World ”, for the design of the book ›Olaf Nicolai: Rewind Forward‹ . In 2007 he won the renowned competition for the corporate design of the Kieler Woche . In 2013 he was awarded the Ladislav Sutnar Prize of the Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. Markus Dreßen was accepted into the Alliance Graphique Internationale in 2004 .
