Jozef Čierny (born May 17, 1974 in Zvolen , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who was last under contract until December 2011 at SCM Brașov in the Romanian ice hockey league.

Career

Jozef Čierny began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the HKm Zvolen , for whose professional team he made his debut in the second Czechoslovak division in the 1991/92 season. He was then selected in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 35 players by the Buffalo Sabers , for whom he never played. Instead, the winger ran in the 1992/93 season for their farm team , the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League . Together with a four-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 1994 he was given on September 1, 1993 in exchange for Craig Simpson to the Edmonton Oilers . For the Canadians he was during the 1993/94 season in a single game in the National Hockey League on the ice, in which he remained pointless and punished. The entire rest of the time from 1993 to 1995, however, he spent with Edmonton's AHL farm team Cape Breton Oilers .

After Čierny was in the International Hockey League from 1995 to 1997, first for the Detroit Vipers and then the Long Beach Ice Dogs , he was under contract from 1997 to 2000 with the Nuremberg Ice Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League . For the Franks he scored 124 points in a total of 172 games. In the following years, the former Czechoslovak junior international returned to his home club HKm Zvolen, for whom he went on the hunt for goals between 2000 and 2008 in the Slovak extra league . During this period he became Slovak champion in the 2000/01 season . Following this success, he stayed out of ice hockey for a season before returning to Zvolen's professional team in 2002. He also finished the 2004/05 season with AaB Ishockey in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen .

After he had also started the 2008/09 season in Zvolen, Čierny joined the EC Graz 99ers from the Austrian ice hockey league during the season before he finished it at HYS The Hague in the Eredivisie . With the Dutch, he won the national championship title in the playoffs . In the following season , the Slovak was active for EC Bad Tölz in the third-class ice hockey league . The Slovakian spent the 2010/11 season in his home country at the second division club HK Spišská Nová Ves . In November 2011, Čierny hired at SCM Brașov from the Romanian ice hockey league. Before the end of 2011, they prematurely terminated his contract.

International

For Czechoslovakia Čierny took part in the European Junior Championships in 1992. In the course of the tournament he scored three goals and provided two assists in six games.
