Markus Forster (born April 8, 1975 in Roth ) is a former German triathlete and Ironman winner (2006).

Career

Markus Forster was active as a footballer during his school days. In 1988 he was still working as a helper at Challenge Roth - and a few years later he was to start there himself.

German junior triathlon champion 1994

In 1994 he became German junior triathlon champion and he was able to repeat this success in 1995. In 1996 he was appointed to the DTU B-team.

In 2000, after missing the Olympic qualification, he started the Ironman Switzerland for the first time in August on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and he finished fifth in Zurich.

In 2002 he became German Duathlon Champion on the short distance and Duathlon Vice European Champion. He was able to qualify three times for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii (World Championship) and achieved his best result with a seventh place in 2002. Forster started for the Asics Team Witten .

In April 2003 he won the Strongman All Japan Triathlon on the long distance and in the following year he was able to successfully defend this title.

Markus Forster won the Ironman Wisconsin in September 2006 . At the end of 2008 he announced the end of his professional career at the turn of the year after 20 years in triathlon.

Markus Forster lives in Burgoberbach in the Central Franconian district of Ansbach and he works as a chimney sweep.
