Markus Schroer

Markus Schroer (born June 20, 1964 in Fröndenberg ) is a German sociologist . He is Professor of General Sociology at the Philipps University of Marburg .

Scientific career

Markus Schroer studied German philology , social sciences and history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 1998 he received his doctorate on the subject of “The individual in society. Synchronous and diachronic theory perspectives ”. This work was awarded the dissertation prize of the German Society for Sociology (DGS) in 2000. From 1998 to 2004 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 2000 to 2004 Markus Schroer worked as an editor for the specialist magazine “ Soziale Welt ”.

With the writing “Spaces, Places, Borders. Towards a sociology of space "he was at the 2004 TU Darmstadt habilitation . He received a Heisenberg grant from the DFG (2005–2009) and has meanwhile represented professorships for general sociology in Erfurt and Marburg , and he also taught as a visiting professor at the Universities of Vienna and Basel . In 2009 he accepted a professorship for sociological theory and philosophy of the social sciences at the University of Kassel .

Markus Schroer has been Professor of General Sociology at the Philipps University of Marburg since 2010.

His main focus in teaching and research : sociological theories, history of sociology , cultural sociology , poststructuralism and postmodernism , spatial sociology , film sociology, sociology of borders, sociology of attention .
