The family company Marquardt, founded in 1925 and headquartered in Rietheim-Weilheim, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of mechatronic switching and operating systems. The products of the mechatronics specialist - including operating components, vehicle access, driving authorization and battery management systems for electric vehicles - are used by many well-known customers in the automotive industry. Systems from Marquardt can also be found in household appliances, industrial applications and power tools. The family company has around 10,500 employees worldwide at 20 locations on four continents . Sales in the 2019 financial year were over 1.3 billion euros. Annually, Marquardt invests around ten percent of sales in research and development.

The founders of Marquardt

history

In 1925, Johannes and Johannes Marquardt founded the “special factory for electrical supplies and precision mechanics” in Rietheim . In 1928 the first factory building was built in Rietheim for the development and production of switches for the electrical industry. After the Second World War, branch plants were established in Böttingen . Marquardt was the first German company to manufacture snap-action switches in 1953 . In 1980 the first special switches for automotive applications were developed, later drive authorization systems and control panels. Marquardt also developed electronics and motor controls for small household appliances and cleaning devices.

In the 1980s and 1990s subsidiaries and branches were established in the USA, France, Tunisia, China, India and Switzerland, and later in Romania and Mexico.

Business areas

The group is organized into the two business areas “Automotive” and “Switches, Sensors and Controls”. With its two divisions, the group operates in many markets around the world.

Driving authorization systems and operating components

"Automotive" develops and implements driver authorization systems (such as electronic keys and electronic ignition starter switches , electronic steering locks , start-stop systems), operating components (such as seat adjustment switches, rotary light switches, door and convertible top control panels), drive authorization systems, batteries and subsystems for electromobility , near field communication ( NFC), RGB lighting systems.

“Switches, Sensors and Controls” develops, produces and sells switch systems for power tools , sensors, systems and switches for the home and for industrial and electrical applications.
