Marrok is a metal or rock band from Steyr ( Upper Austria ).
Surname
The name Marrok goes back to the legend of a Celtic knight who turned into a werewolf .
history
The band was founded in 1998 in Steyr . In 2002 the band released their first record with the self-produced EP Extreme . In 2005 the band received the Austrian Newcomer Award. After drummer Alexander Grassler and bassist Andreas Krawinkler no longer wanted to make music together in 2005, they left the band at the end of 2005. The only remaining founding member was frontman Brian Pearl, who went looking for new musicians in 2006 and was working on a new album.
In 2009, Marrok returned with a new line-up and the album Reawakening . The album was recorded at Marrok Music Productions, Brian Pearl's own studio in Bad Hall . In 2010 the band took part in numerous band contests, won the “ International Live Award ” band competition in Vienna and thus became well-known in the scene. In addition, with No Time to Die , a single including a video was released for the first time. In 2010 the band gave bigger concerts for the first time. She performed at the May Festival and Danube Island Festival and was the opening act for well-known American rock groups such as Papa Roach , Skindred and Alter Bridge .
In 2011 the third album called Midnight Carnival was released , this time in collaboration with the Viennese label Hoanzl . In April of the same year the band won the “gotv hosted by user” voting for the best band in Austria.
In 2012 the band was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the “Hard & Heavy” category, and the band also received the Golden Penguin from the music magazine Xpress, which Michael Jackson and Falco have already received.
In August 2012, the fourth studio album Days of Mercury was released and entered the iTunes rock chart at number 1. The first video of the album Revolution of Heroes was shot entirely using green screen technology and tells the story of a dying world. In 2013 the band played together with Rammstein , Thirty Seconds to Mars and others at the Nova Rock Festival in Nickelsdorf and a week later at the See Rock Festival , which also featured genre greats such as Iron Maiden , Motörhead or Limp Bizkit , and at the Danube Island Festival .
style
In the earlier years the band played a mixture of funk , metal and crossover , but developed over the years, especially through the change in line-up in 2006, to a band that focused more on melodic metal and rock.
The band mentions Alter Bridge , Dream Theater , Papa Roach , Avenged Sevenfold , Rory Gallagher , Slipknot and Marilyn Manson as influences .
