Martí Ventolrà i Fort , in Spanish also Martín Vantolrá , (born December 16, 1906 in Barcelona , † June 5, 1977 in Mexico City ) was a Spanish football player .
His son José Vantolrá was also a soccer player and played for Mexico at the 1970 World Cup . Martí, on the other hand, played for Spain at the 1934 World Cup . This makes the two Ventolrás the only father-son pair that competed for different national teams at a World Cup.
Career
Ventolrà first played in his career, starting in 1924, for Espanyol Barcelona , with whom he won the Copa del Rey and the Catalan championship in 1929 . On June 20, 1930, he completed his first international match for Spain in a 3-2 win against Italy . In the summer of 1930 he joined Sevilla FC for three years . For the 1933/34 season, the Catalan moved to FC Barcelona . In his first season at Barça, he was the most successful goalscorer of his team with 14 goals in 17 games and was fourth on the league scorer list. Despite his goals, Barcelona finished penultimate in the table this season.
At the 1934 World Cup , he played for Spain in the quarter-finals, in which his team lost 1-0 to the eventual winners Italy. For the national team he played a total of 12 internationals until his last international match in 1936, in which he scored 3 goals.
In the seasons 1934/35 and 1935/36 he was with a total of 17 goals in 41 games no longer as successful as in his first season, but Barça improved to 6th and 5th place in the table. His four goals in the 5-0 win against Real Madrid on April 21, 1935 remain memorable , making him the only FC Barcelona player to date to have scored more than three times in the league in El Clásico .
When Barcelona made a tour of Mexico in the summer of 1937 during the Spanish Civil War , Ventolrà withdrew and signed a contract with the Mexican first division club CF Atlante . At Atlante he was top scorer in the 1940/41 season. In 1949 he hung up his soccer shoes.
