Martín Rico y Ortega (born November 12, 1833 in Madrid , † April 13, 1908 in Venice ) was a Spanish impressionist painter . He was one of the few outstanding Spanish landscape painters at the time . His detailed and atmospheric works often also reflect the architecture . Rico y Ortega was able to capture even the hustle and bustle of several people with his photo-realistic memory in his pictures. His technique mixed the art of the panorama painters of the 19th century with that of the vedute painters of the 18th century. In some cases he also used hyperrealism by changing perspectives of buildings in order to make them more recognizable. Rico y Ortega was one of the first in situ landscape painters - so he did not paint in the studio . He became internationally known for his numerous pictures of his chosen city of Venice .
