Martin Luther Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Martin Luther Church , built in 1902/03 based on plans by Gustav Haeberle , is located at Kronacher Strasse 16 in Lichtenfels . It is registered under the number D-4-78-139-58 in the list of monuments of the city of Lichtenfels .

history

The Lichtenfels parish is relatively young. She was originally a daughter of the parish in Schney . Due to the growing importance of Lichtenfels as a railway junction, more and more Protestant Christians settled in Lichtenfels, so that in 1893 Lichtenfels was elevated to a branch parish. In addition to Lichtenfels, it included the villages of Burgberg, Seubelsdorf , Oberwallenstadt , Unterwallenstadt and Vierzehnheiligen , which at the time belonged to Lichtenfels as Frankenthal. In 1900 the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation Lichtenfels already comprised 1,020 parishioners. The call for a separate house of God grew louder. A church building association was founded as early as 1892 . In the first phase of construction, the foundation stone was laid in May 1894 for the parish hall of the rectory, which was initially to replace the church. On the 1st Sunday of Advent, December 2nd, 1894, the parish hall was inaugurated. The congregation met there every Sunday for worship. In 1902 the construction of the church began. The topping-out ceremony was on March 18, 1903, and it was inaugurated on December 8, 1903. In 1907 the Lichtenfels parish became independent.

Two of the three bells were delivered to the armaments industry in 1914 . The ringing was completed in 1922 by two new bells, cast by Franz August Schilling . In 1942 two of the three bells were again melted down. Only the prayer bell has survived the Second World War . The church roof, which was badly damaged by bombardment when American troops marched in in 1945, was initially repaired poorly. In 1952 the bell could be added again.

The parish received greater growth in the 1990s through the settlement of ethnic repatriates from the former Soviet Union.
