life and work

From 2004 to 2011 Martin Blumöhr studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Markus Oehlen and Anke Doberauer and graduated with a diploma after a guest semester with Peter Kogler . After receiving a scholarship from Ernst Fuchs in Vienna, he became his master student and worked as his personal assistant. His works were exhibited in 2016 in the Munich dye works, in 2015 in the Malura Museum Oberdießen and in 2012 in the art pavilion in the old botanical garden in Munich. He lives and works in Munich.

Martin Blumöhr categorizes his work in series: “ Facial Digitals is what he calls a series of bright, multicolored and formally strictly structured images that have their origin in the screen disturbances on the television screen, which we are all familiar with. [...] The second series entitled Graphiti could be described as seemingly surrealistic enigmas of inner mental images . [...] In doing so, Blumöhr questions the subjects of young painting methods such as street art, graffiti [...] and tattoo art. The images of the third and fourth series with the titles Destructures and Destruction , in which the forms and shapes arising in the creative process are created and dissolved again at the same time, signal a distance from formal perfection and closeness to reality in an autobiographical context and contain references to art and contemporary history.

Murale works

Martin Blumöhr's work is best known for his “Public Viewing” series. While promoting the local authorities (u. A. Culture Department , Building Department , he designed) mural art projects in public space of the city of Munich as "Salt City" (16 x 4.5 m, Munich, Marienplatz, 2005), "tunnel vision" (90 x 2.5 m, Munich-Pasing, 2014), "Edge width" (22.5 m × 13 m, Munich-Pasing, 2015), "Unter Menzingern" (2016, Munich-Obermenzing) and "Niwenhaus" (250m², Munich-Neuhausen 2016). For these works, the artist designs large-format wall surfaces in relation to the local location and in dialogue with passers-by. In doing so, he incorporates research into historical aspects and architectural, political and cultural particularities of the location, as well as personal experiences and assessments of residents. He then sampled the material found associatively on the wall and freely reproduces it in picture-in-picture situations, often with comic-grotesque influences.
