Pasinger Dumpling War

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Pasinger dumplings war an action of the will Pasinger Werbegraphikers Helmut Winter (* Oct. 1919 in Munich-Schwabing , † 20 July 2013 in Pasing) in 1967 against aircraft noise at the air base Fuerstenfeldbruck referred.

The Starfighters of the Federal Air Force flew over the southern residential areas of Pasing daily between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on their approach to the Fürstenfeldbruck air base at a low altitude. All complaints of the noise-damaged residents remained ineffective.

In February 1967, Winter was working on a complicated final drawing for a control valve when two planes suddenly flew over his house. The sonic boom was so violent that a reflex movement of the drawing hand caused ink to pour over the almost finished drawing. Two weeks of work had instantly become worthless. Since he was under deadline pressure, he got so furious that he placed an advertisement in which he was looking for a quote: "Anti-aircraft gun with sufficient ammunition to restore order and quiet in the western airspace of Munich". Correspondence was requested under 1/3469 Z to the evening newspaper . It is not known whether he received serious offers.

However, this text was so provocative that it found itself in the "concave mirror" of the news magazine Der Spiegel . The effect of this ad was enormous, the world press took part and wanted to know when he was finally going to shoot. But the graphic artist always replied: “The pilots will be amazed”. The rebel found the time to develop the offensive weapon that would guarantee subsequent success. For “shooting” he used the oldest cannon, a replica of a catapult , a ballista , and Bavarian potato dumplings as ammunition . From then on, he was dubbed the dumpling shooter by Pasing in the press .

It was precisely the choice of weapon and ammunition that made the action less martial. The whole world laughed at this German incursion - it gave the Luftwaffe and even the United States Air Force the opportunity to make peace with the belligerent gunner and to change the landing approach or to refrain from supersonic flights over Munich. For the idea, Winter received, among other things, the first Karl Valentin Order ever awarded “for the most beautiful nonsense of the year” in 1967.

Some time later, a record was produced on which Helmut Winter sang a song specially composed for him:

I am the dumpling rider of Bavaria because I am a friend of calm .

Dumpling Order

Since then - initially by Winter himself, since his death by his widow Elisabeth Winter - the Knödel Order (sometimes also: Pasinger Knödel Order) has been awarded every year . Franz Josef Strauss , Peter Alexander , Lothar-Günther Buchheim , Lou van Burg and Karl Schranz have already received the order . The last award was made in 2015 to the artist Martin Blumöhr , the children's and youth workshop of the Pasinger factory and the Pasinger archive .
