Martin Falck

Martin Falck (born October 26, 1888 in Plauen , † October 29, 1914 near Ypres ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Falck was born in Plauen as the son of the school principal Eduard Falck. Early on he showed an inclination to music. From 1908 he studied German and musicology in Berlin . In the same year he moved to Munich , where, while studying, he deepened his theoretical knowledge with Edgar Istel . In the autumn of 1909, Falck went to Leipzig , where he received his doctorate under Hugo Riemann in 1912 and completed his studies with the state examination shortly before the start of the war . In the musical field he was active through preparatory work on the publication of early music , the collection of the most important works of his deceased uncle, the composer and music writer Bernhard Vogel (1847–1898), and research into the life and work of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach .

After the outbreak of war he volunteered, but after two weeks he was killed in an assault near Beceleare .
