Martin Flossmann , also: Martin Flossmann-Harell , (born February 16, 1937 in Linz as Horst Karl Heinrich Flossmann ; † December 28, 1999 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austrian actor, playwright and cabaret artist.

Life

After three years of traveling in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, the trained lawyer and trained actor joined the theater at Palais Auersperg in 1969 as the director of the cabaret ensemble Der Bunte Wagen . In the 1970s he designed and staged cabaret revues for ORF under the title cabaret cabaret in which stars such as Ossi Kolmann and Max Böhm performed. In 1974 he became known to a wider public when he took over the Simpl cabaret , of which he became a partner and artistic director. This cabaret venue has been in a crisis since the death of the former “principal” Karl Farkas in 1971. Flossmann completely replaced the old ensemble around Hugo Wiener and Maxi Böhm .

With his new ensemble, which included Louis Strasser , Tamara Stadnikow, Kurt Sobotka and later Edith Leyrer , he staged musical revues that were entirely in keeping with the Simpl tradition. The first program, which he had already performed in the Theater bei Auersperg, was entitled The Colorful Car and was also a bestseller as a record . Flossmann appeared as a conférencier in front of the Simpl's trademark, the red curtain. There, in an otherwise rather apolitical environment, allusions to daily politics were also discussed. He designed a total of 19 programs for Simpl, including lavish, operetta-like vocal productions. One of the best-known was entitled State of Ancient Rome - Flossmann translated this play from English, originally performed at Grauman's Theater in Los Angeles . (As Die Spinnen, die Römer! Premiered in 1987 in Simpl and in 2011/12 at the Vienna Volksoper .)

With his last program Bulli unpacks! Flossmann said goodbye to Vienna in the 1992/93 season. This program referred to the heraldic animal of the house and the founding of the Simpl, which in 1992 celebrated its eightieth anniversary.

Flossmann sold the Simpl to its managing director Albert Schmidleitner and handed the artistic direction over to Michael Niavarani, who was then still young and who came to the stage in 1989 for a season . Flossmann went to Berlin, where he worked at the Friedrichstadtpalast . As his projects fell victim to the Berlin theater crisis, he soon returned to Austria. At the beginning of March 1996 he staged Emmerich Kálmán's operetta Die Faschingsfee at the Baden City Theater , which Flossmann had completely reworked and in which he (alongside Louis Strasser and Franz Suhrada ) played Duke Ottokar .

In the last few years he lived largely withdrawn in Lower Austria. He died of lymphatic cancer . He is known as Dr. Horst-Martin Flossmann is buried in an honorary grave in the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 8, row 3, number 3).

Flossmann was married to Ossy Kolmann's daughter.
