Edith Leyrer (born October 25, 1943 or 1946 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actress . From 1978 to 1993 she took part in the Simpl cabaret in over 3500 performances.

Life

Edith Leyrer was born the daughter of a textile wholesaler and a concert pianist. First she attended a children's drama school, followed by training with Anna Lamberg-Offer and ballet training at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Rosalia Chladek .

Her first engagement took her to the Saarbrücken State Theater at the age of 16 . Gerhard Bronner brought her back to Vienna as the successor to Louise Martini in the ensemble around Bronner and Helmut Qualtinger . She also appeared in the Austrian TV cabaret series Das Zeitventil, directed by Bronner .

From Marcel Prawy it was for West Side Story at the Vienna Volksoper engaged in the Theater in der Josefstadt she played among others in Arthur Schnitzler's drama The word on the side of Klaus Maria Brandauer .

In 1978 she brought Martin Flossmann to the Simpl cabaret , where she belonged to the ensemble alongside Louis Strasser, Tamara Stadnikow and Kurt Sobotka until 1993 and participated in over 3,500 performances.

Since 1994 she has appeared as a freelance actress in the Komödie am Kai , the Kleine Komödie , the Freie Bühne Wieden , the Festspielhaus St. Pölten , at the Raimund Festival , in the Stadttheater as well as in the Baden Summer Arena , the Bad Hall Summer Games and the Gloria Theater , in the Metropol and in the Linzer Chamäleon-Theater. She also gives solo cabaret evenings, including with the Tucholsky program Yesterday - not tomorrow, today you should live .

Leyrer is honorary president of the Make-a-wish Foundation Austria , an association that wants to fulfill the heart's desires of seriously ill children.
