Career

Martin Fritz, who belongs to the winter sports club in Murau ( Styria ), has been competing in the Nordic Combined Continental Cup since 2012 , before that he was active in the Juniors' Alpine Cup . He made his World Cup debut on January 20, 2013 in Seefeld in Tyrol as a member of the national group. He finished the competition in 47th place.

At the Junior World Championship in 2014 , Martin Fritz was world champion with the Austrian relay and won bronze in the 5 km individual competition behind Philipp Orter and David Welde . As a result, Fritz came to the last World Cup competitions of the 2013/14 season to further appearances. In Lahti he won World Cup points in 26th place for the first time, at Holmenkollen he was 23rd with a total of 13 points he was 66th overall. He achieved his best World Cup result to date on February 28, 2016 in the individual (HS 134; 10 km) in Val di Fiemme with 10th place.

In the 2015/16 season , Fritz mainly took part in the Continental Cup competitions and experienced his most successful season to date. Due to many good results, including a first, a second and three third places, Fritz was able to win the overall standings with 705 points at the end of the season.

Martin Fritz can look back on a very successful 2016/2017 season . Already in the Summer Grand Prix he was able to achieve a top ten place for the first time with 8th place in a Grand Prix competition, together with his teammate Harald Lemmerer , in a team sprint over 7.5 km. As in the previous year, Fritz won the overall ranking in the Continental Cup and was able to look forward to a top 20 result in the World Cup with 16th place in Sapporo .

The 2017/18 season got off to a very promising start for Fritz, as he was able to achieve two top ten results in the first two competitions of the Summer Grand Prix with an 8th and 9th place. The young Styrian then underpinned these achievements in the last two competitions of the Grand Prix in Planica, where he finished fourth and on the last day celebrated his very first podium on the large hill behind the Norwegian duo Moan and Riiber . In the final overall ranking of the Summer Grand Prix 2017 , Fritz was able to achieve a top ten result with 8th place. At the end of the preparation for the beginning winter season, he was able to achieve the bronze medal on the normal hill and 4th place on the large hill at the Austrian Championships in Villach . Shortly thereafter, Fritz achieved his best World Cup result to date in the first competition of the new winter season in Ruka, a 7th place at the World Cup opener in Ruka.

In the 2018 Summer Grand Prix , Fritz succeeded in seamlessly following on from the previous year, so his worst result in all seven competitions was 8th place. As in the previous year, he was able to achieve his best Grand Prix result in the individual in Planica and this time came second, which helped him to jump on the podium in the overall standings, to 3rd place. With an 11th place at the start of the season in Ruka, Fritz opened the 2018/19 season again very promisingly and finished the first World Cup weekend in the team competition (HS 142, 4x5 km) with Greiderer , Denifl and Seidl with a good 4th place. After two top ten placements in the first two competitions in Lillehammer, Fritz achieved fifth place, his best result up to that point. In the first competition in 2019, Martin Fritz was finally able to achieve his very first podium in a World Cup. After Fritz hit the trail in ninth place after the jump, 46 seconds behind, he was able to break away from the chasing group with an outstanding mileage and crossed the finish line before his teammates Seidl and Rehrl , 5 seconds behind the winner Riiber and just 1.8 seconds on the second Watabe . In the overall ranking, Fritz finally achieved 13th place as the third best Austrian. At the home world championship in Seefeld 2019, Martin Fritz celebrated his world championship debut on the Toni-Seelos-Olympiaschanze and reached a solid 15th place over 10 km Gundersen.

In the 2019/20 season , Fritz secured the first podium for the ÖSV in the team sprint with Lukas Greiderer . After the jumping, the two were in 6th place, 44 seconds behind the leading Norwegians and were able to prevail in the finish sprint just ahead of their teammates Rehrl and Klapfer . Fritz is also consistently among the top ten in the individual competitions, he achieved 7th place in Ruka, 8th and 10th place in Lillehammer and 7th place in Val di Fiemme in January.
