Martin Grüning (Author)

Martin Grüning (born December 2, 1962 in Neuss ) is a former German long-distance runner who now works as a journalist and non-fiction author .

Sporting successes

In 1984 he won the Essen run around the Baldeneysee in 2:18:22 h on his marathon debut. The following year, he rose to 21st in the Chicago Marathon to 2:14:58 h. In 1987 he was ninth in the Berlin Marathon in 2:14:16 h. In the following year he achieved his best placement in the German championships (third in the 5000 meter run ) and was second in the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:13:46 h. In 1990 he finished third in the Houston Marathon in his personal best of 2:13:30 h, and in 1992 he took the same place in the Frankfurt Marathon.

Career

Grüning initially belonged to the TG Neuss (1976–1980) and then to the LG DJK Düsseldorf / Neuss. Since 1984 he started for LAV Bayer Uerdingen / Dormagen.

Grüning is currently editor-in-chief of the German edition of Runner's World . Together with Thomas Steffens, he has written a number of guides on running .
