Martin Kirsch (* 1965 in Berlin ) is a German historian .

Life

Cherry studied from 1984 to 1991 history and law at the Universities of Geneva , Berlin and Münster . He wrote his master's thesis in 1991 on the subject of "The republicanization of the French nation 1879 / 80–1914" at the Free University of Berlin. In 1997 he received his doctorate with a thesis entitled “Monarchical Constitutionalism in the 19th Century - France (1789–1877 / 79) in European Comparison” with Hartmut Kaelble at the Humboldt University in Berlin . He graduated with the distinction (summa cum laude). His doctorate was funded by a scholarship from the Evangelisches Studienwerk and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). From 1995 to 2000, Kirsch was Hartmut Kaelble's research associate in the DFG research group "Historical-Social Science Comparison" at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 2003 to 2009 Kirsch was junior professor for modern and contemporary history and its didactics at the University of Koblenz-Landau , Landau campus. Since the history course was concentrated on the Koblenz campus in 2006 and the last students were accepted in the 2006 summer semester, Kirsch was the last holder of this professorship. From 2010 to 2011 Cherry Forschungsstipendiant was Gerda Henkel Foundation on the topic: "Europahistoriographie in the middle of the 20th century. Kirsch's interests and main research areas are comparative European political and constitutional history (18th - 21st centuries), the history of science (especially the history of historical studies in the 20th century), transnational migration and identities in the 20th century, as well as history didactics (especially historical awareness) .
