Blake Kessel (born April 13, 1989 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is an American ice hockey player who is currently under contract with the Kalamazoo Wings in the East Coast Hockey League .

Career

Kessel began his career in the 2006/07 season with the Waterloo Black Hawks in the US junior league United States Hockey League , where he was awarded 57 scorer points in 59 games as the best and most attacking defender following the 2007/08 season. Between 2008 and 2011 he was on the ice for the University of New Hampshire's university team in Hockey East , which is part of the NCAA's game operations . In September 2011, Kessel was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League , but was only used with the Adirondack Phantoms farm team in the American Hockey League and the Trenton Titans in the East Coast Hockey League in the subsequent two seasons .

In October 2013, Kessel played at the beginning of the 2013/14 season with the Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL, but was transferred to the Orlando Solar Bears after only four games within the league . There the left-handed shooter played a total of 43 games and was briefly active on loan in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs and Rochester Americans during the current season . Kessel also spent a large part of the following season with the Solar Bears , before moving to Europe in February 2015 and joining the Finnish first division club Tampereen Ilves . A year later - in February 2016 - he moved to the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League .

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season he played for the Atlanta Gladiators in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), for which he scored seven hits and 16 assists in 22 appearances. At the end of November he was transferred to the Kalamazoo Wings within the league . Until his move, he was the ECHL's defender with the highest points.

family

Kessel comes from a family of athletes; so his father was a professional football player , who was drafted by the Washington Redskins from the National Football League . Likewise, his brother Phil and cousin David Moss are professional ice hockey players with long careers in the National Hockey League . His sister Amanda is also active in ice hockey and won the silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics with the USA national team .
