Martin Kolmar

Martin Kolmar (born May 3, 1967 in Arnsberg , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German - Swiss economist and business ethicist . He is professor of economics with a focus on applied microeconomics at the University of St. Gallen and director of the Institute for Business Ethics . Kolmar also regularly writes guest articles in the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit .

Life

education

Martin Kolmar grew up in Arnsberg in the Sauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia . He studied economics at the University of Bonn and graduated in 1993 with a diploma. Previously, he was an exchange student at the University of Berkeley in California for a year .

In 1997 Kolmar received his doctorate from the University of Konstanz with a dissertation on the subject of Social Policy in the European Union (German: " Social Policy in the European Union "). In 2002 Kolmar took a sabbatical at Brown University , one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States . In 2002 habilitated he at the University of Konstanz with a habilitation thesis titled Essays on the Economics of Conflict (German: "Essays on the Economics of Conflict ").

Professional career

From 1998 to 2000 Kolmar was an assistant professor at the University of Bonn . From 2000 to 2002 he was an assistant professor at the University of Konstanz . Later Kolmar was a professor at universities in Göttingen and Mainz . From 2002 to 2003 he was professor at the chair for social policy at the University of Göttingen . From 2003 to 2006 he was a professor at the chair for economic theory at the University of Mainz .

Since 2006, Kolmar has been a full professor for economics at the chair for applied microeconomics at the University of St. Gallen . From 2011 to 2017 he was director of the Research Association for Economics . In 2011, Kolmar took a sabbatical from San Francisco State University and the University of California, Berkeley . Martin Kolmar heads the Institute for Business Ethics and conducts research at the interface between normative economics , economic behavior theory , psychology , neuroscience , ethics and philosophy of science .

Private life

Kolmar is married to Claudia Fichtner, a management consultant , and has one child. He lives in Trogen AR .
