Martin Krenn (artist)

Martin Krenn (born 1970 in Vienna ) is an Austrian artist .

Life

Krenn realizes projects, exhibitions, works in public space and videos on topics such as capitalism , racism , National Socialism and the globalization movement. He also works as a curator and has developed the following exhibition projects, among others: The poster series “Work against racism” in Vienna in 2005 and 2005–2009, together with Andrea Domesle, the traveling exhibition “On the tectonics of history”. This was presented in the Forum Stadtpark in Graz (A), in the Galerii Emila Filly in Ústí nad Labem (CZ), in the Wyspa Institute of Art in Gdańsk  (PL), in the Motorenhalle Dresden  (D) and in ISCP-New York (USA ) shown. Since 2007 he has been working in cooperation with activists on the video project "In Between the Movements" on local and global forms of resistance. Since 2006 he has been teaching at the University of Applied Arts in the "Art and Communicative Practice" department. In the course of his teaching activity at the University of Applied Arts, he led the project "Open Call for the transformation of the Lueger monument into a memorial against anti-Semitism and racism", which attracted wide media coverage.

On April 3, 2016, the Peace Cross St. Lorenz memorial designed by Krenn was unveiled, which placed the photo montage "German Acorns" by John Heartfield , printed on a transparent metal mesh, in front of the memorial cross of a combat group of the German Wehrmacht erected in the 1960s.

From 2006 to 2009 he was chairman of the interest group for visual artists in Austria ( IG Bildende Kunst ). Martin Krenn lives and works in Vienna and Belfast .
