Johann Hermann Voerster

Johann Hermann Voerster (also Vorster ; * baptized October 13, 1757 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † January 13, 1832 ibid) was the first mayor of the newly appointed city of Mülheim an der Ruhr as municipal director .

Life

Johann Hermann Vorster was the son of the papermaker Hermann Vorster (1716–1773) and his second wife Anna Margarethe Cäcilie, née Lucas (1732–1803), was born. As the third son of his father's acquisition came in the since the 17th century in Vorster'schen located family-owned paper mill in the Ruhr shore of domination Broich out of the question. At first he worked in the Saarner porcelain factory founded by his father and his friend Hermann Kellermann in 1765 , which had to close again in 1771. Then Johann Hermann went into business for himself and founded a vinegar factory. On July 1, 1790, he married Elisabeth Brink (1759–1826), heiress of the Altenhof on the church hill , where the couple lived from then on.

As at January 28, 1808 Mülheim by order of Joachim Murat , Grand Duke of Berg and brother of Napoleon , the municipality was declared, was Johann Hermann Voerster the post of Directeurs . A little later he was called a Maire . His term of office was marked by difficulties and problems in the young city, but also by sharp disputes with the superior authority. All of this prompted him to hand over his office to Johann Heinrich Michels in 1813 .

Marriage and offspring

Johann Hermann Voerster married Elisabeth Brink (1759–1826) in 1790. They had a daughter:
