Heinz Hager

Heinz Hager (born February 21, 1927 in Oberhausen ; † July 9, 2001 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was Lord Mayor from 1969 to 1974 and Chief City Director of Mülheim an der Ruhr from 1974 to 1992 .

Live and act

After training in administration and employment at the employment office, Hager came to the Mülheim city administration in 1955, where he rose to head the main office within ten years . In 1965 he resigned from municipal services to take up the position of administrative director at the Evangelical Hospital in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

When a successor to the outgoing Mayor Heinrich Thöne was sought in 1969 , the SPD in Mülheim chose him. Almost five years later, Hager resigned, only to be elected senior city director by the Mülheim City Council in October 1974 . He held this position until his retirement in 1992. During his time as head of administration, there were numerous large-scale urban development projects such as the Mülheim State Garden Show (MüGa), the conversion of Schloßstraße into a pedestrian zone, the construction of the City Center (Forum) and the renovation of the church hill .

Heinz Hager was a member of the SPD (since 1954), chairman of the district association of the German Red Cross (1976-1995) and president of the Raffelberg racing club (1980-1999). The city of Mülheim awarded him the Ring of Honor for his services in 2000 .

He died in July 2001 after a long and serious illness.
