Karl von Bock and Polach , baptized as Carl Friedrich Wilhelm von Bock and Polach , (born October 28, 1840 in Mainz , † January 29, 1902 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a Prussian administrative officer and (mayor) from 1879 to 1902 the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr.

He came from the Meissen noble family Bock and Polach and was the eldest son of the Prussian captain Ernst von Bock and Polach (1799-1849).

Karl von Bock and Polach joined the infantry regiment "Graf Bülow von Dennewitz" together with his brother Max in 1859 as a lieutenant . In 1864 he participated in the German-Danish War and in 1866 in the German War . After leaving in 1868, he turned to administration. In 1869 he was entrusted with the provisional position of mayor in Laasphe . From 1870 to 1871 he took part in the Franco-German War as a company commander in the Landwehr and was dismissed with the rank of major . After a brief activity as a volunteer with the Prussian district government in Arnsberg , he was appointed bailiff of the Langerfeld office and moved to Herne as bailiff in 1877 .

On his initiative, a volunteer fire brigade was founded in Langerfeld in 1875 and in Herne in 1877. In Herne, as captain, he was also the first head of the fire department.

In 1879 he took up his post as mayor in Mülheim an der Ruhr and in 1881 took over the post of chairman of the Masonic Lodge Broich. As a result of his great services, he was appointed mayor by cabinet order of January 7, 1895. In 1899 he gave up the office of chairman of the Broich Lodge due to a serious illness. From then on, the business of the mayor was led by his first alderman Erich von Wedelstädt until his death in 1902 .

In 1914, a street in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Von-Bock-Strasse, was named after him.
