Karl Emil Obertüschen (born February 23, 1828 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † May 5, 1873 ibid) was a German politician and mayor of the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr from 1857 to 1873 .

Life

He was born in Mülheim an der Ruhr as the son of the dyer and Winkelier Johann Obertüschen and his wife Sophie Pithan. After attending school and completing his law studies, he was appointed court assessor and, in 1857, elected mayor by the city council of Mülheim. During his studies he became a member of the Arminia Bonn fraternity in 1847 .

After his election had been confirmed by the Prussian district government, various festive dinners were held in his honor on May 19, 1857, the eve of his inauguration. He attended all the events one after the other and thus secured an initial sympathy bonus among the Mülheim population.

During his term of office, both the Prussian census (1861) and the Franco-German War (1870–71) fall . In the latter case, Obertüschen stood out for its involvement in numerous aid organizations. He died in office in 1873 of a kidney disease.
