The Rotmainquelle is the origin of the Red Main , the left and southern source river of the Main , in the district of Bayreuth in Upper Franconia .
description
The Rotmainquelle is about ten kilometers south of Bayreuth , at an altitude of 581 m above sea level. NN , near Hörlasreuth , in the community-free area Lindenhardter Forst-Südost . The source is located in the Lindenhardter Forst forest area of the same name , on the southern slope of the Tannenberg (596 m). Although the Red Main longer by a few kilometers as the White Main , the more bulk end the rule of White Main Source as the main source.
The Rotmainquelle was set in stone in 1907, from there the water flows off via a narrow wooden pipe. The headwaters are in the Franconian Switzerland Nature Park - Veldenstein Forest . Geologically it belongs to the Brown Jura . The river takes its name from the boggy- red subsoil and the sediment carried along , which makes it appear reddish.
The Püttlach and Fichtenohe , the upper reaches of the Pegnitz, arise near the source of the Rotmain .
