The Fichtenohe is an approximately 15 km long, left tributary of the Pegnitz in Upper Franconia . Some also refer to the Fichtenohe as just a surname in the upper reaches of the Pegnitz.

Surname

The term spruce- the water's name comes from the dense spruce forest in the region, the basic word -ohe is a form of a widespread river name of ancient origin, which means 'flowing water'. As -ohe , -ach and also as an independent word Aach, Ach, Ache , Achen it occurs in the names of numerous bodies of water in German-speaking countries.

It rises in the Lindenhardt Forest not far from the Rotmain spring and the origin of the Püttlach north of Lindenhardt near the A 9 . The Fichtenohe, which flows south from there, reaches the valley of the Zipser Mühlbach a little above the town of Pegnitz . At the mouth of the river it changes its direction of flow to the west, then bends back to the south and divides into two arms in Pegnitz:

The right course of the river flows past the outdoor pool and flows around the historic city center in an arc to the west. After about a kilometer, it is reinforced below the Schlossberg by the approximately 100 m long and significantly smaller stream from the Pegnitz spring and is called from there an Pegnitz .

The left arm, which is also called Mühlbach, flows through parts of the old town and after about 900 m in a culvert crosses the Pegnitz, which crosses from the right and west and which has taken up the right arm. The Mühlbach then bends to the southeast and follows the Pegnitz in parallel. At the Röschmühle, a large part of the Mühlbach water is fed to the Pegnitz, the rest disappears in the so-called water mountain. While the Pegnitz flows around it in a 1.8 km long eastern loop in about 15 minutes, the underground flow of the Fichtenohe at 320 m as the crow flies takes about 180 minutes. Immediately after the Rest-Fichtenohe exits the mountain again, it flows into the Pegnitz from the right.
