Martin Luther was a German historical film by Karl Wüstenhagen from 1923, which was announced at times under the title Martin Luther - The Struggle of His Life . The film is considered lost .

action

Not much is known about the plot of the film. The focus of the film was on the life and work of Martin Luther. The obligatory posting of theses was discussed.

background

The film was produced by Luther-Film GmbH , Düsseldorf . The Protestant Church supported the project with the help of advice when developing the script and through the distribution of the film through the Evangelical Chamber of Pictures . The film was shown for the first time in Munich in 1923 . However, this demonstration was only intended for representatives of the press. That is why there was a public premiere at the Wartburg in the same year . The Luther film was shown publicly several times, but mostly in a shortened form. The audience was sometimes not very enthusiastic. The same was true of the film critics and the theologians.

The silent film Martin Luther has probably not survived. The same applies to the censorship cards with the subtitles and the script by PA Kurz . However, the manuscript by Walther Nithack-Stahn has been preserved. The manuscript, which was probably not implemented in all respects, was probably used again in the film adaptation of Luther - A Film of the German Reformation . As in the manuscript, Luther appears in the 1927 film adaptation of the Archangel Michael .
