Martin Andreas Väth (born March 23, 1967 in Würzburg ) is a German mathematician and university professor in the field of analysis .

Life

After graduating from high school in his hometown of Würzburg in 1988, Väth studied mathematics with a minor in computer science at the Julius Maximilians University there . He graduated with a diploma and received his doctorate there, supervised by Jürgen Appell, in 1996 as a Dr. rer. nat. In 1999, he completed his habilitation on Volterra equations .

After his habilitation, Väth worked at the Universities of Würzburg, Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , FU Berlin , Gießen and Rostock (Chair of Functional Analysis at the Institute for Mathematics). In addition to other stays abroad, he received a DAAD scholarship at the California Institute of Technology . In 2009/10 and 2015/16 he researched for one year at the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague.

The focus of his research is in the field of linear and non-linear analysis with topics such as partial and ordinary differential equations , spectral theory and non-standard analysis . He is also concerned with applications in biochemistry .

He received a Heisenberg grant from the DFG for topology applications in analysis.

In addition to numerous articles in specialist journals, Väth has published six monographs and textbooks on topics of analysis.
