Martin Marco Peter Wildauer (born November 27, 1987 in Kufstein ) is an Austrian strength athlete , world record holder in the strongman disciplines stone lifting and auto deadlift and multiple holder of the title Strongest Man of Austria . He was a competitive athlete at the World Strongman Championships, the World's Strongest Man (WSM), the Strongman Champions League and the Giants Live.

Life

Wildauer grew up in Langkampfen . After completing secondary school, he attended the Higher Technical College-Anichstrasse in Innsbruck , which he completed with the diploma and matriculation exams. Since January 2011 he has been working as a public service employee in his home town of Langkampfen and organizes weight training events on a part-time basis.

In addition to weight training, Wildauer is also involved in craft and woodwork.

Athletic career

When he entered secondary school at the age of 10, Wildauer registered for karate and kickboxing training . He took part in exams and competitions, got the green belt in karate and won the Tyrolean championships of the ASKÖ association in kickboxing several times . He also won the Austrian Championships in semi contact, although he was in the first seconds of the fight by the sidekick of the opponent one orbital floor fracture had closed. His parents bought him a dumbbell set consisting of bars and a multifunctional tower, where he regularly trained alongside martial arts in order to emulate his role model Arnold Schwarzenegger .

At the age of 13, in addition to kickboxing training, he took boxing lessons in Wörgl at the Unterberger boxing club in order to improve his boxing technique and speed. In boxing he also competed and, like in kickboxing, won the Tyrolean and Austrian championships through knockout. At that time he trained boxing twice a week, kickboxing twice a week and the rest of the time at home with dumbbells and weights.

In the first year of school at the technical institute in Innsbruck, the regular boxing training units and the lesson plan overlapped. Therefore, he ended his boxing ambitions and focused solely on strength training. Martin trained for a year in the fitness and weight room of the boxing center, as it was equipped with various machines that were not available to him at home.

At the age of 15, after the first year of school at the HTL, he persuaded his father to enroll him in the gym. After two months of training, Wildauer was able to deadlift 200 kg in the studio .

At the beginning in the fitness studio he got to know two powerlifters and a HTL school colleague, Christoph Rieser , with whom he trained together from then on. As a result, he found pleasure in the sport of powerlifting and took part in competitions. After a short time he broke the records in various weight and age classes and set a total of 45 new Tyrolean and Austrian records, with his Austrian record of 300 kg raw (= without weightlifting suit) bringing the most recognition in the youth class.

In 2006 he started in the traditional Bavarian sport , stone lifting , for the first time in Feldkirchen in Germany and took 2nd place.

In 2007 a training partner made him aware of the strongman competitions of the Austrian Giants , the Austrian championship in strongman. Without any special training in the various disciplines, he registered for the qualification of the Austrian Summer Giants , which he won, and finally came in 5th at the main event.

Then the German strongman, Heinz Ollesch , became aware of Wildauer. From then on, Wildauer trained weekly the strongman disciplines at the training base in Ollesch. In the same year, Heinz Ollesch invited Wildauer to the team world championship in Ukraine. In 2007 Wildauer and Stefan Weiermann won the 4-country comparison match in Strongman in Graz. In the same year he won a stone lifting competition for the first time.

After smaller competitions and winning the Austrian Winter Giants 2008 , Wildauer was invited to the Strongman Champions League qualification at FIBO 2009 in Essen. Although he injured both patellar tendon attachments in the first discipline, tree trunk chopping, he made it to 2nd place behind strongman Travis Ortmayer. The top 2 of this competition were guaranteed a place in the highest league in strongman, the Strongman Champions League. A week later he was invited to the Strongman Champions League in Serbia, where he finished 5th and won the auto deadlift. Due to his performance, he was invited to the next competitions and took 3rd place the week after Serbia in the Strongman Champions League in Finland and was now leading after the first day of competition. In this competition, too, he was able to win several disciplines with his grip and back strength and again won the auto deadlift with a new world record with eleven repetitions with 350 kg in 60 seconds. Also in 2009 he set the all-time world record in stone lifting with 350 kg to 94 cm in Markt Indersdorf , Germany.

Wildauer's overall ranking in the Strongman Champions League was so good that he was invited to the World's Strongest Man , the world championship in strongman. This competition took place in 2009 in Malta. Wildauer was drawn into the group of Brian Shaw , Zydrunas Savikcas , Mark Felix , Stefan Solvi Petursson and Marshall White and did not qualify for the final. This group was also called the deadlift group because the strongest deadlifters in the world were in one group.
