; German: Martinsbruck ) is a small village, border town and one of thegeography
The village is located on the Inn and the main road 27 at the border crossing to Austria . The Tyrolean town of Nauders on the other side of the Inn is 7.8 kilometers further east on the Reschen Pass . Four kilometers to the south is the "Dreiländer Grenzstein" ( 2179 m above sea level ), the triangle between Switzerland, Austria and Italy.
The next larger town on Swiss territory is the capital of the Lower Engadine , Scuol , 17 km up the Inn. The village is 1035 m above sea level. M. and is surrounded by mountains. On the north side of the Inn valley ( Silvretta group ) lies the 3146 m high Piz Mundin , in the south the Piz Lad ( 2808 m above sea level ).
Language and population
The language is Vallader , the Lower Engadine idiom of Rhaeto-Romanic .
Martina has a little over 100 inhabitants. Many are older, but new young people are also moving to Martina, especially border guards. Martina has a reformed and a catholic church. Almost all the houses in the village are old Engadine houses . The border town of Vinadi belongs to Martina .

history
Historically, Martina, like large parts of the Lower Engadine, belonged to the sphere of influence of the County of Tyrol and the Diocese of Chur . Contrary to popular belief, Martina (German: Martinsbruck) was not a border town in the Lower Engadine in the 13th century . As early as 1258, Juvelle - instead of Martina - was named as the border point of the Lower Engadine when Pontalt was settled at that time .
