Martti Jylhä (born June 3, 1987 in Sotkamo ) is a Finnish cross-country skier .

Career

Jylhä first appeared in 2005 at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Monthey . There he took silver over 7.5 km classic. He has been taking part in the Scandinavian Cup since 2005 . His first World Cup race ran in March 2006 in Borlänge , which he finished with 27th place in the sprint and thus also won his first World Cup points. At the 2007 Junior World Championships in Tarvisio, he won gold over 10 km freestyle and silver in sprint. In February 2009 he achieved ninth place in the sprint in Valdidentro , his first top ten placement in the World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , he finished 33rd in the sprint. He reached 22nd place at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 . At the Finnish cross-country skiing championship in Kuopio in 2011 , he won gold in the sprint. In the 2013/14 season he took second place in the sprint in Davos, his first and so far only podium finish in the World Cup. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he finished 21st in the sprint. He finished the season in 42nd place in the overall World Cup ranking and 13th place in the sprint ranking. At the Finnish cross-country skiing championship in Vantaa in 2014 , he won gold in the sprint. In February 2015, he came fifth in the team sprint at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . In the 2015/16 season he came in 12 World Cup sprints, four times in the top ten. The fourth place at the beginning of the season in Davos was his best result and at the end of the season he reached 11th place in the Sprint World Cup. At the end of January 2016 he was third in the sprint at the Finnish championships in Imatra . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2017 , he finished seventh in the sprint. The following year he ran at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang to tenth place in the sprint and ninth place together with Ristomatti Hakola in the team sprint.
