Marty Cooksey

Marty Cooksey (actually Martha Cooksey; born July 18, 1954 ) is a former American long-distance runner .

In 1978 she won the Mission Bay Marathon and the Avon Marathon . She was second in the New York City Marathon , and shortly afterwards she was also second in the Honolulu Marathon . The following year she won the Hang Ten Marathon. In 1980 she finished sixth in the Avon Marathon and fourth in Honolulu.

At the World Cross Country Championships in Rome in 1982 she came in 17th place. In 1983 she was runner-up in the California International Marathon , and in 1984 she came 13th in the US Olympic Marathon qualifiers.

In 1986 she was second in Freihofer's Run for Women and fourth in the road running world championship for women. The following year she was third in the Crescent City Classic , fifth at the Pittsburgh Marathon and won at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis over 10,000 m . In 1988 she was eleventh at the World Road Running Championships and finished 13th at the Chicago Marathon .

She was twice US champion in the 30 km road race (1979, 1980) and once each in the 5 km road race (1986) and in the marathon (1978).
