Martyn Snow

Martyn James Snow (* 1968 in Indonesia ) is a British Anglican theologian . On December 15, 2015, his appointment as Bishop of Leicester in the Church of England was announced.

Life

Snow grew up in Indonesia, where he was born. He studied theology at Sheffield University . In preparation for his priesthood he attended Wycliffe Hall Theological College in Oxford . In 1995 he was ordained . His priests career began from 1995 to 1997 in the Diocese of Sheffield as an auxiliary Vicar ( Assistant Curate ) at St Andrew's Church in Brinsworth , where he also for the communities in Catcliffe and Treeton was responsible. He then worked from 1998 to 2001 in the Church Mission, where he was a parish vicar and chaplain in Guinea in West Africa for the Church Mission Society .

From 2001 to 2010 he was pastor ( vicar ) at Christ Church in Pitsmoor , a suburb of Sheffield ; at the same time, he held the post of this period land Dean ( Rural Dean ) of Ecclesfield from. From 2007 to 2010 he was also Area Dean of Ecclesfield. 2010 and 2013 he was Archdeacon ( Archdeacon , head of a church parish) from Sheffield and Rotherham.

In August 2013, his appointment as suffragan bishop of Tewkesbury was announced. In September 2013 he was ordained a bishop at Westminster Abbey in London . In October 2013 he took office as suffragan Bishop of Tewkesbury in the Diocese of Gloucester. He was the youngest incumbent bishop in the Church of England when he took office, aged 45. From August 2014 he was also appointed acting in this capacity Bishop of Gloucester ( acting diocesan Bishop of Gloucester ). He represented Diocesan Bishop Michael Francis Perham, who retired on July 31, 2014, until Rachel Treweek, the new Bishop of Gloucester, took office in March 2015. He had previously worked as Perham's personal assistant.

On December 15, 2015, Snow's appointment as Bishop of Leicester was announced; he succeeded Timothy John Stevens , who had retired on August 31, 2015. On February 22, 2016, his appointment as bishop was officially confirmed (so-called confirmation ). His inauguration and enthronement will take place in 2016 at Leicester Cathedral .

Personal

Snow is with the pediatrician Dr. Lynn Snow married; Her areas of expertise include a. Adoptions and foster care. The marriage resulted in three children, a daughter and two younger sons. Snow's hobbies include sports (especially kayaking ), music, travel, and foreign cultures.
