Marx Wilhelm Fack (born November 4, 1823 in Delve , † May 27, 1911 in Kiel ) was a German high school teacher and naturalist.

Life

Marx Fack was a son of the kätner , butcher and cattle dealer Johann Christopher Fack (* 1793 in Delve ) and his wife Catharina Magdalena, née Andresen (* 1792 in Heide ). From 1833 he received private lessons from the deacon Hans Lorenzen, who was the second pastor in Delve. After confirmation, he passed an exam at the government in Gottorf. He then taught as a sub-teacher in Norderstapel and then in the class of the cantor at the Erfde district school.

In 1844 Fack switched to the teachers' college in Segeberg . A teacher named Martens aroused his interest in studying nature there. Franck finished the teacher training with the 2nd character and "honorable distinction". In the fall of 1847 he got a job as a private tutor in Kiel. During the Schleswig-Holstein uprising he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Army from 1849 and fought as a soldier and non-commissioned officer. Later he took over the editorial management of the veterans' association "Combat Association of the Forty-Eight", which emerged from the army for many years.

After the end of the war, Fack taught at schools in Pohnsdorf and Glückstadt for some time . In November 1853 he accepted a call from the Kiel School of Academics and taught natural history at the local grammar school. In 1899 he retired. He then worked for ten years as a registrar for the Kiel-Land district.

Fack was married to Elise Christine Bevense (January 22, 1886 in Kiel).

Working as a researcher

Inspired by Ludwig Meyn , who was working in Kiel at the time and who later moved away, Fack dealt in particular with the geology of the surrounding area after moving to the city. In doing so, he collected over 200 finds, primarily Holstein attachments , almost all of which were unknown up to this point. The city of Kiel bought this important collection after Fack's death and included it in the material collection of the school education center.

In addition to the debris, Fauck recorded almost all land and freshwater conchylia in the region. Three petrefacts bear his name. Since the association was founded, he has been an important member of the association north of the Elbe for the dissemination of scientific knowledge and has been its secretary for some time.

In 1890 Fack founded the association "Die Heimat" and took over its chairmanship until 1896. For the association magazine of the same name , he wrote many articles about his findings on natural history and the geography of Schleswig-Holstein. There were also three carefully compiled books on the "Geography of Schleswig-Holstein" (1865), "Kiel and its surroundings" (1867) and "The Schleswig-Holstein Army 1848–51" (1898). For 30 years he wrote extensive weather reports for the Kieler Zeitung.
