biography
Mary Moser was the daughter of the Swiss artist George Michael Moser (1706–1783), who had moved to London in 1729. She was artistically gifted, won a medal award for a flower painting at the age of 14 and was then able to exhibit several times in the Society of Artists of Great Britain . A decade later, in search of professional recognition, she took part in the founding of the Royal Academy of Arts with Angelika Kauffmann and her father . In particular, she had found a patron in Queen Charlotte . She had commissioned them in the 1790s to decorate the Frogmore estate in Windsor Castle with floral paintings .

In a group portrait by Johann Zoffany , The Portraits of the Academicians , the members are shown gathered around a naked male model, while women were excluded from training on these models to protect their moral integrity. So that Moser and Kauffmann could be included in the picture as founding members, Zoffanys cleverly added them to the group picture as portraits picture in picture hanging on the wall.
The painter George Romney portrayed her around 1770 while she was painting a still life . The painting was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2003 .
On October 26, 1793, she married Captain Hugh Lloyd, Chelsea, and withdrew from the academic artistic life. She was buried in the Kensington cemetery.
