Mesh-Wire-Fence is the title of a number one hit that was created in 1999 in cooperation between Stefan Raab and Truck Stop .

background

On October 12, 1999 the housewife Regina Zindler appeared with her neighbor at the time, Gerd Trommer, in the court show Judge Barbara Salesch on Sat.1 . At that time, real arbitration cases without actors were shown on the show. The reason for this negotiation was a neighborhood dispute in the Saxon town of Auerbach in the Vogtland district . Zindler asked Trommer to remove a crackling pea bush that was overgrown on his property and that was damaging her chain link fence . Salesch came to the conclusion that the damage was not significant, which is why Zindler's lawsuit was dismissed.

Zindler and her “neighborhood dispute” became known throughout Germany when the television presenter Stefan Raab totally attacked him on October 18, 1999 on his TV show . There he was amused, on the one hand, by the bizarre nature of the procedure and, on the other hand, in particular by the Vogtland dialect of Zindler and her pronunciation of the words "chain link fence" and "Knallerbsenstrauch".

Song by Stefan Raab

In that broadcast on October 18, 1999, Raab presented a self-composed song in which he used video takes with Zindler and her words " Chain Link Fence " and "Knallerbsenstrauch" as the original sound in the verse and chorus. The response to this raw version was so great that Raab decided to produce the song, which was written together with Jens Bujar, in a country style with the help of the band Truck Stop . The original recording of the words "chain link fence" and "Knallerbsenstrauch" from the court broadcast by Zindler was added . A maxi CD was created with the title Maschen-Draht-Zaun , which was released on November 12, 1999. A music video also followed . The title went straight to number 1 in the German charts at the end of November 1999 and was able to maintain the top position for another six weeks in a row. In total, the title sold around a million times. Regina Zindler received a voluntary share of ten pfennigs per CD sold.

Mesh-Wire-Fence is Raab's only number one hit as an artist. As an author, he achieved this success again in 2004 with Can't Wait Until Tonight ( Max Mutzke ).

Media attention

As a result of the clips on TV total, the topic also became interesting for the tabloid media ; TV teams from all over Germany besieged the properties of the warring parties Zindler and Trommer. The fact that Trommer replanted the shrub and was filmed did not diminish the attention. After numerous onlookers besieged Regina Zindler's property and damaged the fence, she could not withstand the psychological pressure caused by the public attention, sold the property and moved to a quieter prefabricated housing estate in Berlin-Lichtenberg. But later she returned to Saxony.
