Masoud Shojaei-Soleimani (born June 9, 1984 in Shiraz ) is an Iranian football player.
Career
His football career began at the age of 16. Shojaei played two seasons for the Saipa Tehran youth team . At the age of 18, he received his first professional contract with Sanat Naft Abadan in 2002 . In the 2002/2003 season things did not go well for Abadan and the team relegated to the Azadegan League at the end of the season . After that season, Shojaei returned to Tehran and joined Saipa Tehran. He signed a three-year contract there.
Shojaei made a name for himself with the fans in the three seasons at Saipa in the top Iranian league . His skills did not escape Branko Ivanković , the then national coach of Iran . After the 2005/2006 season , to the surprise of many fans and experts, he went abroad to Al-Sharjah ( United Arab Emirates ). On June 23, 2008 Shojaei left Al Sharjah for Spain to CA Osasuna , which signed him until 2011.
On November 17, 2004 Shojaei was part of the squad of Team Melli for the first time in the World Cup qualifier against the selection of Laos , which Iran won 7-0. He was also in the squad of the national team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany called. There he was only used in the last group D match against Angola , which ended 1: 1.
Shojaei has signed a contract with UD Las Palmas in the second Spanish division until 2014.
Since Shojaei had played for his club Panionios Athens in the Europa League qualification against the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2017 , he and his Iranian teammate Ehsan Hajsafi were removed from the national team by the Iranian Ministry of Sports on August 10, 2017 until at least after the World Cup Excluded in Russia in 2018 . After protests by fans and former international players who feared Iran would be banned by FIFA for the 2018 World Cup because of political interference, Iran's sports minister announced that the country's National Security Council would deal with the case.
After all, he was in Iran's squad for the 2018 World Cup . In the first group game against Morocco he led his team as captain, but was not used in the games against Spain and Portugal . Iran was eliminated as third party in the group stage.
