Matthias Rejsek was born in Prostějov before 1450 (probably in the Moravian town Prostějov , German Proßnitz ; the Bohemian village Prostějov is also an option). He went to Prague to study at Prague University . In 1469 he finished his studies as a bachelor and became rector of the school of the Tyn Church in the old town of Prague .

Matthias Rejsek gave up teaching at the Teyn School, became a member of the Prague stonemasonry in 1478, and accepted building contracts in Prague. and built numerous smaller buildings on churches and town houses. His decorative work was particularly appreciated. One of his most famous works is the Prague Powder Tower , which was built as a representative gate of the old town after 1475 and of which he was the sole construction manager from 1478. His work was inspired by the work of Peter Parler .

In 1489 Rejsek moved to Kutná Hora (German Kuttenberg ), where he worked on the construction of the Cathedral of St. Barbara . Rejsek built the choir of the cathedral and in 1499 made the net vault of the choir.

He died on July 1, 1506 in Kutná Hora or in Prague and was buried in the Cathedral of St. Barbara.
