Matema is an island in the South Pacific that belongs to the Solomon Islands . Matema is part of the Reef Islands , which are in the north of the Santa Cruz Islands . The island belongs to the Temotu province .

population

The inhabitants of Matema speak Pileni, a Polynesian language , but externally show Melanesian features. Much of the population lives in the northern part of the island. Residents regularly paddle east in canoes to trade on the larger islands of the Reef Islands.

Surroundings

The island is surrounded by a circular reef with a diameter of about one kilometer. The Malim Reef is located 1.3 kilometers north of Matema .
