Life

Mathias Aberle was born as the son of a teacher on February 20, 1784 in Donaueschingen. From 1796 he was trained by a surgeon and in 1801 he moved to the University of Innsbruck . She received his doctorate in medicine in 1806 and a doctorate in surgery three years later . In that year, 1809, he took care of wounded soldiers in the military hospital in Hall in Tirol , which made him famous. Two years later he was called to Salzburg to become professor of anatomy at the royal country doctor school. At that time, the city was still part of Bavaria, but when Austria was able to recapture it in 1815, Aberle was offered a professorship at the University of Landshut , which he, however, refused to “prefer Austria” .

Aberle founded the anatomical-physiological as well as the anatomical-pathological museum and, as a general practitioner, dealt particularly with childhood diseases. In 1827 he fell ill with an eye disease . When his left eye fell ill with cataracts in 1836 , he was unable to continue the scientific work he had published in magazines.

On March 5, 1847, Aberle died in Salzburg after a brief illness; two days later he was buried in the Sebastian cemetery.
