Mathias Jack (born February 15, 1969 in Leipzig ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Born in Leipzig, Jack turned out to be a wanderer in his career. After his youth positions at BSG Chemie Leipzig and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig , he initially played for the first team of BSG Chemie in the second-class league of GDR football . He made his debut for BSG Wismut Aue in the fall of 1989 in the top division of the former GDR , but had to relegate with the Veilchen from the league.
In 1991 he moved to VfB Oldenburg and then came to Rot-Weiss Essen , with whom he reached the DFB Cup final in 1993/94 (1: 3 in the final against Werder Bremen ). In the summer of 1995 Jack then signed with Bundesliga club VfL Bochum . Here he became a crowd favorite due to his combative style of play. As a regular player, he had a share in the Bundesliga ascent in 1996 and fifth place in the first division in 1997. In the same year he accepted a higher-endowed offer from Fortuna Düsseldorf . However, he later regretted not having stayed with VfL Bochum, which was more successful at the time.
In 1999 he moved to Scotland to join Hibernian Edinburgh . After all, he played here for five years and reached the 2001 cup final with the club (3-0 against Celtic Glasgow ). He also reached the place for the UEFA Europa League with Hibs and played there a. a. against AEK Athens. After a stopover with the Scottish Raith Rovers and a short stay in Iceland with UMF Grindavík from Grindavík , he went back to Germany and was brought into the league by Wolfgang Frank at FC Sachsen Leipzig .
In 2006 the former second division club SV Meppen (now Oberliga Nord) was his next stop. There he was a player and assistant coach. In 2008/09 he trained as a player-coach at DJK Amisia Rheine.
In the summer of 2009 he ended his career as a player and became a scout for Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld . From 2010 to 2013 he was the U15 coach at Fortuna Düsseldorf. From 2013 to 2018 he trained the U23 of Fortuna Düsseldorf together with Taskin Aksoy.
