Matjaž Debelak (born August 27, 1965 in Braslovče ) is a former Yugoslav ski jumper .
On December 22, 1985 Debelak made his debut in the ski jumping world cup in Chamonix . With eighth place he also won his first World Cup points. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 in Oberstdorf , Debelak jumped from the normal hill to 23rd place and from the large hill to 28th place.
At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Debelak won the bronze medal on the large hill behind Matti Nykänen and Erik Johnsen . In team jumping he achieved the silver medal together with Primož Ulaga , Matjaž Zupan and Miran Tepeš . He also made it into the top ten in both competitions after the games in Planica . He was then named Slovenian Sportsman of the Year in 1988 . He was the first ski jumper after Danilo Pudgar to receive this award in 1972.
The 1988/89 World Cup season began with two top 10 placings in Lake Placid and Sapporo . However, it was his last placement in the top ten in the World Cup. Only at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 did he once again jump into the top ten with 6th place on the normal hill. After he could not achieve any more World Cup points in the World Cup season 1989/90 , he ended his active ski jumping career in 1990.
