Mats Strandberg (* 1976 in Fagersta ) is a Swedish writer , columnist and journalist .

life and work

Mats Strandberg was born and raised in the small Swedish town of Fagersta, but left his hometown at the age of 16 and moved to Stockholm . He still works as a freelance journalist and a columnist for the tabloid Aftonbladet and the LGBT - magazine QX . For his columns he was named Columnist of the Year in 2004 by Sveriges Tidskrifter , the association of Swedish magazine publishers .

Even in his youth, Mats Strandberg had the desire to become a writer. In 2006 he published his debut novel Jaktsäsong . His third novel Halva liv was published in 2009 and was published in 2011 under the German title Halbes Leben by C. Bertelsmann Verlag .

Together with the Swedish writer Sara Bergmark Elfgren , he wrote the Engelsfors trilogy, a fantasy series for young people, which was published in German by Dressler Verlag . Cirkeln , the first volume in this series, published in 2012 under the German title Zirkel , was nominated in 2011 for the Swedish August Prize in the category of children's and young people's books and was also made into a film in 2015.

Strandberg's first horror novel, Färjan , which was published in German by Fischer Tor under the title Die Überfahrt 2017 , was on the Spiegel bestseller list for weeks .

Mats Strandberg lives with his husband, the Swedish actor Johan Ehn , in Södermalm , a district of Stockholm.
