Matthias Henkel (actor)

Matthias Henkel (* 1962 in Weimar , then Stadtkreis Weimar , District Erfurt , German Democratic Republic ) is a German actor .

Life

Matthias Henkel grew up in Leipzig in 1969 , where he also went to school. From 1979 to 1981 he completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller and worked in this profession until 1983 before he decided on a career as an actor.

He completed his acting studies from 1985 to 1989 at the "Hans Otto" theater school in Leipzig. During his training he was engaged at the drama studio of the Staatsschauspiel Dresden from 1987 to 1989 .

Since 1989 he has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the State Theaters of Saxony . There he played numerous roles in classical and modern theater literature, a. a. the Hamlet and the title role in Chekhov's Platonov .

Henkel's other leading roles at the Landesbühnen Sachsen were Hagen in Die Nibelungen (1999, directed by Andreas Knaup ) and Marat in The Persecution and Murder of Jean Paul Marat (1999, directed by Andreas Knaup). In the 1998/89 season he took over Professor Henry Higgins in the musical production My Fair Lady at the Saxony State Theaters . Later there followed Karl Moor in Die Räuber (2003, directed by Sylvia Richter) and Jason in Medea (2004, directed by Arne Retzlaff ) as the leading roles. He also played Salieri in Amadeus (2006, director: Arne Retzlaff) and Nathan (2011-2013, director: Arne Retzlaff).

Since 1991 he has also been seen in the Karl May productions at the Felsenbühne Rathen . There he stepped u. a. as Santer in Winnetou I (2006, again from 2015), as Cornel Brinkley in Der Schatz im Silbersee (2007-2009) and as Butler in Der Ölprinz (2010-2011). In the summer of 2017 he played the cathedral provost Claude Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre-Dame at the Felsenbühne Rathen .

Occasionally Henkel worked for television in addition to his extensive theater work . He had u. a. Roles in the TV series Schloss Einstein (2006–2007, series role as businessman Bernhard Sieger) and in SOKO Leipzig . In the 10th season of the ZDF series SOKO Wismar (2013) he took on one of the main roles of the episode as a suspect veterinarian and uncle of a killed veterinarian .

Since 1990 he has also been working as a professional speaker for radio and television ( MDR , ARD , arte ). Henkel lives in Dresden and has one son.
