Matthias Knecht

Matthias H. Knecht (* 1975 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician . The non-party member has been the eighth Lord Mayor of Ludwigsburg since September 1, 2019 after the Second World War .

Professional background

After graduating from high school, Knecht studied law in Konstanz and Munich and administrative sciences in Speyer with a focus on personnel management. He passed the second state examination in law at the Munich Higher Regional Court, qualified as a judge and received his doctorate in 2004 on a subject on the European Union . He first worked at the Max Planck Society in Munich and then at the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation . In 2011 he was appointed to the Kempten University of Applied Sciences , specializing in social security law, public law and European law. Until 2016 he was chairman of the examination committee in the Faculty of Social Affairs and Health for five years before he became dean of this faculty in the winter semester 2016/17 .

In Ludwigsburg, Knecht was first chairman of the sports club with the largest number of members, MTV 1846 Ludwigsburg e. V. and was this also at SC Ludwigsburg e. V. until the unanimously decided merger with the neighboring association. He was also chairman of the City Association for Sport Ludwigsburg e. V., an association of 45 associations in the city.

Ludwigsburg

On June 30, 2019, the non-party servant surprisingly became the successor of 16-year-old mayor Werner Spec in the 94,000-inhabitant city of Ludwigsburg with a turnout of 36.55 percent with 58.54% of the votes . With the support of the CDU, the Greens and the SPD, he knew three of the four large parliamentary groups in the local council behind him and was considered a slight favorite. The eight-year term began on September 1, 2019.

Political priorities

For Ludwigsburg, Knecht wants to expand the role model university city and modern urban development with a networked, modern city. In his election program, he focused on housing construction, sustainability and climate protection, mobility, education and care, security and order, as well as integration and inclusion.
