Matthias Ritschel (born April 12, 1986 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) is a German handball player who was active as a goalkeeper for TV 05/07 Hüttenberg for a large part of his career .

Career

Matthias Ritschel was signed to Bundesliga club TV Großwallstadt in January 2006 at the age of 19 and then continued to play with a double play right at his former club TuSpo Obernburg , where he had matured into a youth and junior national team. With the junior team of the German Handball Federation, he also brought the junior European champion title to Germany in 2004.

In July 2007 Ritschel announced his change and moved up as the new number 2 in the goalkeeper position in the team of TV 08 Willstätt-Ortenau in the 2nd Bundesliga. When Willstätt joined the newly founded HR Ortenau a year later , the goalkeeper remained part of the team and extended his contract for another two years. However, HR Ortenau did not succeed in achieving its sporting and economic goals. When insolvency proceedings were opened against the short-lived syndicate in May 2009 and the club and the team disbanded a year later, Ritschel then moved to TV 05/07 Hüttenberg . Ritschel initially signed a two-year contract with Mittelhessen and continued his studies in business administration at the University of Giessen .

Under coach Jan Gorr Ritschel experienced one of his most successful phases in sport and fought with TVH in the 2010/11 season for promotion to the Bundesliga, which the team achieved with the success in relegation over GWD Minden . A year later, the traditional Central Hessian club rose again.

After the 2014/15 season, TV 05/07 Hüttenberg was relegated to the 3rd division. Ritschel stayed with the association. A year later, the team of coach Aðalsteinn Eyjólfsson managed to rise again and played for another promotion. On the last day of the match, Hüttenberg secured promotion to the Bundesliga - with Matthias Ritschel in goal, one of the very few players in the TVH jersey who had already seen his way to handball first class in 2011.

After the 2017/18 season, Ritschel ended his professional career at the age of 32. In October 2018 he played again at the Club World Cup for the Oceania representative Sydney University Handball Club. He has been under contract with third division TV Großwallstadt since the 2019/20 season.

Matthias Ritschel played in the youth and junior national team. With the DHB selection he won the title of Junior European Champion in 2004. He played 14 youth and 25 junior internationals.
