On December 18, 2003, the 17-year-old attacker moved on loan to fourth division club Carlisle United . In Football League One 2004/05 , Fryatt became a regular for Walsall and scored fifteen league goals. After another eleven goals in the first half of the following season, Fryatt, who was courted by several clubs, left FC Walsall.

Leicester City

On January 9, 2006, the second division Leicester City announced the commitment of Matty Fryatt. In the following two and a half seasons in the Football League Championship he established himself as a regular player before Leicester relegated to the third division in 2007/08 . The previously less accurate Fryatt stood out in the Football League One 2008/09 with 27 goals as the third best league scorer and thus had a significant share in winning the third division championship. As an award for his achievements, he was voted into the PFA Team of the Year at the end of the season. In the Football League Championship 2009/10 Fryatt (28 league games / 11 goals) reached the play-offs with Leicester on fifth place in the table, but failed prematurely at Cardiff City . Fryatt was injured in the final stages of the season and only returned to the team shortly before the start of the play-offs.

Hull City

During the 2010/11 season Fryatt moved to Hull City on January 1, 2011 and scored nine league goals for his new team by the end of the 2010/11 season . In 2011/12 he scored sixteen league goals for Hull, making him one of the top ten scorers in the second division. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, the attacker was seriously injured in the league cup game against Rotherham United and, as a result, missed the entire season. Hull rose to the end of the season as second in the first division. In the Premier League 2013/14 Fryatt played ten league games and scored two goals. The club achieved a great success by reaching the final of the FA Cup 2013/14 . In front of 89,345 spectators at London's Wembley Stadium , Hull and Fryatt, who was appointed by coach Steve Bruce in the starting eleven, quickly took the lead 2-0 before the final opponent FC Arsenal equalized in the second half. Arsenal secured the title thanks to a goal from Aaron Ramsey in extra time.
